LOVB Houston flips the script, downs LOVB Atlanta in five

LOVB Houston Volleyball rallied for another five-set win Friday night, downing LOVB Atlanta 21-25, 18-25, 25-21, 25-17, 15-10 for a reverse sweep at Gateway Center Arena in Atlanta.
Houston opposite Jordan Thompson led the match with 19 points, collecting 13 kills, two aces, four blocks and 13 digs. Outside hitter Jess Mruzik added 16 kills and an ace while middle blocker Amber Igiede scored 10 kills on a .412 attack percentage while adding five blocks to earn player of the match honors.
Igiede was also player of the match February 16, 2025, when Houston downed Atlanta to win the LOVB Classic title.
For Atlanta, outside hitter McKenzie Adams led the way with 18 points – 17 kills, one block – while middle Danielle Cuttino landed 11 kills, an ace and five blocks. Kelsey Cook added 15 kills and 19 digs.
The teams were evenly matched on the statsheet. Houston landed one more kill than Atlanta (61-60) but Atlanta tallied two more blocks (16-18) and three more digs (66-69). The biggest difference came in attack efficiency as Houston hit .217 on the night while Atlanta hit .188. Atlanta also made six more errors than the visitors (17-23).
Both squads are back in action Saturday, March 8. Houston (6-4) faces LOVB Madison in a neutral site contest set for 4:30 p.m. Eastern while Atlanta (8-2) hosts LOVB Austin at 7 p.m. Both matches may be streamed on LOVB Live, LOVB’s YouTube channel, and the Women’s Sports Network via Samsung TV Plus.
