Jackson and Henry Ruin The Texans Christmas!

Written by Jordan Victorian

While the Texans have secured a home playoff game, the team looks to be in a very bad position following the 31-2 loss to Baltimore on Christmas Day. With the loss, the Texans move to 9-7 on the season, losing momentum as they head into the playoffs.

In the game, C.J. Stroud had a dismal performance, passing for only 185 yards, throwing a costly interception, and being sacked 5 times. In a post-game interview, Stroud stated that it was one of the worst games of his career. While he did have a bad game, he was not the only one to blame. The offense only generated 211 total yards.

The defense was not much better. While they did generate the only points of the game when they caused a safety early in the second quarter, they allowed the Ravens offense to gain over 250 yards on the ground and efficiently move the ball for the entirety of the game. In the post-game interview, head coach DeMeco Ryans stated that the loss can be attributed to lack of execution on third down and in the red zone. The Texans were 4-15 on third down conversions and could not capitalize on any red zone opportunities.

Spirits were a lot higher on the Ravens sideline as Santa brought many gifts for them. Besides the gift of Beyoncé and the win, he also brought quarterback Lamar Jackson a piece of history. Jackson rushed for 87 yards on 4 carries in the game, which was enough to break the NFL record for career rushing yards by a quarterback, previously set by Michael Vick back in 2011. With the win, the Ravens move to an 11-5 record and will win their division with a Week 18 win against the Browns or with a Steelers loss.

While the Ravens seem poised to make a run at the Lombardi Trophy, the Texans seem poised for a quick exit during wild card week. As it stands right now, they would be looking to face the Steelers, who, while they also lost on Christmas, have played against a much higher level of competition than the Texans. Time will tell how things play out, but there may be reason to worry in H-Town.
