Survive and Thrive

Survive and thrive was the hope headed into the first home Dynamo game in some time. The crowd was seated and ready for some action. Would the Dynamo be able to deliver was the question.

The match started as a defensive tug of war with Seattle doing the most of the pushing forward early. The Dynamo would balance it out with a flurry of forward activity prior to the end of the first half. However, it would net no positive results. The first half would end in a nil, nil tie. Both teams had to feel like they left a lot to be desired with the opportunity to advance within reach.

The second half would start slow. When a pivotal moment would occur. Herrera would be red carded. At that point you knew the Dynamo were going to either fold or there was about a standing on business moment for the ages. Hope was slim when Seattle scored the first goal of the match in the 80th min of the match. However, the Dynamo would waste no time responding with super pressure at the net forcing a own goal to tie the game in extra time. The penalty kicks would ensue and so would 13000 plus mini heart attacks with every kick. Until the miss in the second round of penalty kicks and survival wasn't a possibility anymore. In the moment it felt as if it was heartbreaking and revitalizing at the same time.

The thriving has begun. The fans inside the stadium got exactly what they came for. A team that is going fight to the end representing the grind of this city, and we know the shine comes with the grind. Most fans leaving were fired up and ready to be back in that arena supporting their team. They honored a fan that has been a season ticket holder since 2012. The roots are cemented for this franchise in the city and the glory days came roaring back for the Dynamo on Sunday. Until the next time on the pitch keep grinding Orange Legion!
