Tytus Howard's Injury adds another blow to the Texans starters
The Houston Texans received unwelcome news this week when offensive lineman Tytus Howard was carted off the practice field. The former first-round pick has a troubling history of injuries that has significantly impacted his career and, consequently, the team's offensive line. Howard did not practice today (Wednesday) and might possibly not play on Friday, August 9th against the Pittsburg Steelers.
Howard's most consistent season came in 2022 when he played all 17 games. However, his performance has been inconsistent, with a career-best PFF grade of 67.9 in that year but significantly lower scores in other seasons. The 2023 campaign was particularly disappointing, as he missed 10 games and posted a career-low PFF grade of 46.8.
If Howard's absence is extended, the Texans will need to find a suitable replacement. Their recent acquisition of veteran Cameron Erving offers some depth but is unlikely to be a long-term solution. The team may need to reassess its offensive line plans and explore options for the future beyond Howard.
Ultimately, Howard's injury highlights the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the Texans' offensive line. While his talent is undeniable, his inability to stay healthy and consistently perform at a high level has become a major obstacle for the team.
When Coach Demeco Ryans was asked about Howard's injury, his was response was...."Tytus is Good". Hopefully it's not too serious of an injury to disrupt the season. We will keep you posted.
