The preseason finale was a showdown for roster spots. With the Rams in town, the Texans had one last chance to evaluate players and make tough decisions. Case Keenum and Tim Boyle battled for the backup quarterback role, while Cam Akers made a strong case for a spot on the active roster.

Keenum's shaky performance against the Rams raised questions about his future. Boyle outshone him, completing 19 of 28 passes for 142 yards and two touchdowns. While Keenum has experience and familiarity with the system, Boyle's impressive showing could give him the edge.

Akers' resurgence was a bright spot. Returning from a torn Achilles, he showcased his vision, cutback ability, and burst. His performance solidified his place on the roster and could give the Texans a valuable asset in their ground game.

Dameon Pierce's struggles continued. Despite not playing in the finale, his inconsistent performance in previous preseason games raises concerns about his role. With Joe Mixon and potentially Akers ahead of him, Pierce may face a battle to retain his backup spot.

The wide receiver corps is also competitive. Xavier Hutchinson, John Metchie, and Ben Skrownek are vying for roster spots. Hutchinson's size and ability to stretch the field could make him a valuable addition. Metchie's after-catch skills and speed are also impressive.

On the defensive side, Myles Bryant stood out at the nickel position. His physicality and tackling ability make him a strong candidate for the backup role behind Jalen Pitre. Desmond King, however, faces an uncertain future after fumbling a punt.

As the Texans prepare for Week 1 against the Colts, they'll need to finalize their 53-man roster. The decisions made now will have a significant impact on their chances of success in the upcoming season. With a talented young quarterback in C.J. Stroud and a promising defense, the Texans are poised for a competitive season.
