On Monday night, the University of Houston Cougars put the finishing touches on their Presidents Day weekend by beating Iowa State.
Despite being tied at 9-3 in conference play, UH and the Cyclones topped the Big 12 standings. Nevertheless, the Coogs beat the Cyclones 73-65 at Fertitta Center in the nationally televised game.
In avenging the Coogs' first season loss at Iowa State, the Coogs (23-3) extended their home win streak to 20. The leading scorer for UH was Jamal Shead with 26 points. A 20-point contribution came from Emanuel Sharp.
It was a tough win for Houston, as they were outrebounded, 39-30. On the other hand, the Coogs dominated at the free throw line, making 24 of 32 attempts.
