The Mills Project

A total of 14 opponents will appear in 17 games in 2022 for the Texans. As compared to recent years, the quarterbacks they'll face will be very different. In 2021, the Texans were up against a long list of former first-round quarterbacks. As a matter of fact, Russell Wilson (Seahawks) and Jacoby Brissett (Dolphins) are the only two non-first-round quarterbacks in a 17 game season.

With Davis Mills seemingly to become the Texans franchise QB, the difference a year could make for Mills is still speculative but yet positive. Likewise, Lovie Smith has admired Mills' growth throughout 2021, and has been impressed by his leadership.

The progress Mills has made since getting drafted has been mentioned by Smith a few times this offseason. A rookie quarterback who started six times between Weeks 3 and 8 threw six touchdown passes, was intercepted seven times, and was sacked 19 times. A combined 61 points were scored by the Texans over those six games.

However, Mills started the season's final five games when he returned. Two of those five games were wins for Houston, and the team scored 116 points. Nine touchdowns were thrown by Mills, but just two interceptions were thrown. He was also sacked nine times.

The 2022 season is still looking very good in the eyes of the organization as Mills prepares as QB1. Let's just hope the pressure doesn't get to him when facing off with his opponents.
