Dynamo fall to FC Dallas 2-1
FRISCO, Texas (Saturday, April 23, 2022) – Houston Dynamo FC lost in the first installment of the Texas Derby by a final score of 2-1.
Houston scored the opening goal of the match in the 33rd minute after Sebastian Ferreira brought down a cross from defender Adam Lundkvist. Ferreira’s first touch settled the ball for his left-footed effort that beat the Dallas goalkeeper at the near post.
The Dynamo appeared to have doubled their lead in the 55th minute off a free kick from midfielder Memo Rodriguez. The Dynamo Academy alum’s effort bounced off the crossbar and landed behind the Dallas goalkeeper before bouncing back into the field of play. Referee Victor Rivas consulted video assistant referee Armando Villareal and deemed that the ball did not entirely cross the goal line.
FC Dallas leveled the score in the 87th minute, as Marco Farfan got off a cross that found a sliding Katlego Ntsabeleng for the late equalizer. In the second minute of added time, Dallas went ahead 2-1 as Facundo Quignon got on the end of a corner kick at the back post and headed the ball home.
Houston’s first opportunity of the game came in the sixth minute off the right foot of forward Darwin Quintero. The veteran found Fafa Picault inside the box, he quickly played a ball to forward Tyler Pasher at the near post, but his effort was off target.
Despite the final scoreline, Dynamo goalkeeper Steve Clark had a standout performance in the match, finishing with five saves on the day, including multiple acrobatic diving efforts to parry Dallas shots wide of frame. For his efforts, MLS WORKS and Univision will donate $2,500 to Dynamo Charities to provide soccer equipment to Houston ISD schools through the Every Save Makes A Difference program.
The Dynamo return to PNC Stadium on Saturday, April 30 to host Austin FC at 12:30 p.m. CDT. Tickets for that match start at just $22 and are available at HoustonDynamoFC.com/Tickets.
