After upsetting the Los Angeles Rams 17–15 on Saturday afternoon inside NRG Stadium, the Houston Texans are starting the regular season on a positive footing.

In the teams' preseason matchup on Saturday, the Texans defeated the Los Angeles Rams 17–15 thanks to a game-winning touchdown pass from Tim Boyle (142 yards, two touchdowns) and 53 yards garnered from Akers on the field.

Former Ram Akers added 19 receiving yards in the game. While playing for the Rams in 2022, he rushed for 786 yards and seven touchdowns, a career-high. He stands at fifth on the depth chart; among the other running backs with guaranteed spots on the team include Dameon Pierce and Joe Mixon.

The Texans controlled the game for the remaining time of it when Boyle's five-yard touchdown pass to fullback Troy Hairston overturned a 3-3 deadlock in the second quarter.

With barely above three minutes remaining, the Rams tied the score with a two-point conversion, but the Texans were able to eat out the clock and win the game. The Rams attempted to keep things close.

Despite Stroud and backup quarterback Davis Mills absent on Saturday, Houston's third-string quarterback Case Keenum took the start. Before Boyle took over, he coordinated the offense on Houston's opening two drives.

Evans cut the Los Angeles lead to 10-9 with a 4-yard run mere minutes before halftime. The rookie was unable to convert Joshua Karty's extra point as it bounced onto the upright.

In prepping for the start of the season against the Indianapolis Colts on the road in two weeks, the Texans will now decrease their roster.
