Texans & Duke Johnson
The Houston Texans knew they weren’t going to have quality depth behind starting running back Lamar Miller in 2019. D’Onta Foreman wasn’t meeting coach Bill O’Brien’s expectations. With Alfred Blue departed in free agency to the Jacksonville Jaguars, Houston also needed a running back who could complement Miller’s skill set. For these reasons, the Texans traded for Cleveland Browns running back Duke Johnson the day of their first preseason game against the Green Bay Packers on Aug. 8, 2019. Pro Football Focus released data indicating that Johnson was third among qualified running backs in the passing game.
